Why Jesus?

Everyone knows deep within his or her heart that there is a God. All we have to do is look around at the complexity and brilliance of the world in which we live. "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse." - Romans 1:20

The God who made this world and us is holy and perfect but we are not. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." - Romans 3:23

Have you ever told a lie?
Have you ever taken anything that was not yours?
Have you ever looked at a woman or man in a sexual or lustful way?
Have you ever hated anyone? The Bible calls hatred of someone murder.
Have you ever disobeyed your parent?
Have you ever used God's name in anger or swearing?
Have you ever put anything before God in your life?
Of course you have. We all have. But God has declared that these behaviors are all contrary to His nature and He cannot tolerate even one of these sins because of His perfection and justice.
"You shall have no other gods before me.
"You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.
"You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
"Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
"Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
"You shall not murder.
"You shall not commit adultery.
"You shall not steal.
"You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
"You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."
Exodus 20:3-17

So are you guilty of violating God's laws? God's justice demands a penalty and the penalty is death and hell. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23

What hope do we have of ever satisfying God's justice and wrath and having the relationship with Him that we were meant to have? Well, there is good news. Because of His love, God sent his Son, Jesus, into the world to pay the penalty on our behalf. "For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16. "But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

So what do you have to do now? That's what the crowd asked Peter in Jerusalem after Jesus was resurrected. His answer was "Repent." To repent is to turn or change directions. Confess your sins to God and that you want to turn from them and then tell God that you are placing your trust in Jesus as the Lord and Savior of your life. Surrender your heart to Him. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9. "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." Romans 10:9,10
